Dermalogica – What can a facial do for you?!

Dermalogica – Pro Skin 60 – Treatment Review

With my mid-30s just around the corner and my wedding day also fast approaching, I thought this is the time to take my skincare routine to the next level. So off I went to Cocoon Boutique for my first facial.

From the moment I walked through the door I was greeted with a friendly hello. Steph, the lady who did my facial, sat down with me and discussed any particular concerns I have with my skin and asked if there are any areas I wanted to focus on.

Steph started by double-cleansing my face to remove any traces of make up and moisturiser and then carried out a Face Mapping Skin Analysis so that my facial could be tailored to my skin’s individual needs.

The analysis identified a few problem areas including blackheads on my nose, congestion on my forehead and chin and dehydration on my cheeks. I found this part of the facial really helpful because I mentioned to Steph at the beginning that recently I have been getting little bumps under my skin and I wasn’t sure what was causing it.

After asking some questions about my lifestyle, we established that my habit of wearing make up to the gym is what’s causing the congestion. Steph advised me to either give the make up a miss when I exercise or wash it off as soon as I get home so that sweat doesn’t sit on my skin for too long.

All the products used during my facial were Dermalogica and we started with the Daily Superfoliant exfoliator. This helps to fight environmental triggers which accelerate the ageing process and leaves your skin feeling really soft.

She then applied the Multi-Active Toner to refresh and condition the skin. This was a spray toner which I had never heard of before but I love the idea of this because it’s less aggressive than rubbing cotton wool on your face.

A mix of two face masks were then applied – the Skin Hydrating Masque to help with my dehydrated skin and the MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque which is great for anti-ageing and again helps with dull and dehydrated skin. While the mask was on, I had an amazing neck and shoulder massage. A combination of this and the heated bed meant I was super relaxed by this point.

Steph then applied the MultiVitamin Power Firm around my eyes and on my lips to target any fine lines and improve skin elasticity.

She finished with a mix of two moisturisers – the Active Moist and Barrier Repair. The Active Moist is oil-free which is great for my skin because it has always been quite oily and it also targets dehydration which was one of my problem areas. The Barrier Repair helps to protect against environmental triggers which can cause stress to the skin.

I really enjoyed my facial at Cocoon Boutique and I’m really impressed with how tailored the experience is to your individual skincare needs. Steph was incredibly knowledgeable and the advice she passed on to me means that I can adapt my routine at home to better suit my skin’s needs.

You also get to take your Face Mapping Skin Analysis home with you which is great so you can remember what you had done.

My skin has felt great since the facial and I’ve been remembering to exercise make-up-free or to wash it off as soon as I get home from the gym and I’m noticing an improvement already. I’m all booked in for another facial next month and I can’t wait!
